I am a Japanese from Tokyo. People often say to me that Japan is a peaceful country.
Indeed, we hardly come across to the accident or have our possession stolen.
Recently, the gap between rich and poor has been widening, but comparing it with that of Europe or America, I can say that it is still better.
However, nearly three million people commit suicide in Japan every year.
It is because of the unemployment increasing year by year and isolation, but, to me, the reason is not convincing.
The problems must be more deep rooted and complicated than I can expect.
We feel as if we think or act freely, but as far as we are not inventors, our act or thought must be restricted or controlled by the environment from the first place.
And I feel that the controlled environment and the increase in suicides are deeply related to each other.
I wonder, is Japan a peaceful country? I do not know.
The setting of my puppet play is in Tokyo and the title is “TRUST”. Just to tell you, it is not the work whose main theme is about suicide.
But more silly and funny story.
The story starts with a normal man who is having normal days falling in love with a woman at Doutor coffee (franchise coffee shop in Japan like Starbucks).
I hope that those of you who are pure hearted will come to Centre civic Can Felipa on Monday evening, and stay at the end even if you find the play a little boring.
